What’s the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist?

Orthodontists are dentists who complete an additional 2–3 years of specialized training to become experts in orthodontics. This advanced education focuses on the biomechanics of tooth movement and the diagnosis and treatment of misaligned teeth and jaws. Dr. Lee attended UCLA for his orthodontic residency training after completing dental school at USC. After residency, orthodontists may pursue Board Certification through the American Board of Orthodontics by successfully completing rigorous written and clinical examinations that include case presentations. Dr. Lee has been a Board Certified Orthodontist since 2016!
